JUMPING BASS!

While editing the photos of Chris and Barrett’s 3-1-18 trip, I ran across the jumping bass photo and was reminded as to what a really good day it was!   Chris told me it was his best bass fishing day ever as we returned to the dock, and as I reflected back upon it I am not surprised!  I don’t know why, but every now and then somebody just has that magic touch and it was Chris’s turn on this trip!

LOOKBACK!

As a guide, I could not have been more happy for him as he had traveled to Houston on business from New Jersey. We set this trip up several months ago and traded text messages on multiple occasions regarding departure time, directions, rods, weather, techniques, baits and how was the fishing today!! It was obvious that Chris was looking forward to this trip-big time!

As has been the case lately, the weather changed up at the last minute to post frontal conditions with strong north winds, not the south wind I had hoped for. Nonetheless, it all started at the very first stop, where neither Barrett or I could get a nibble.  As I was just about to move, Chris’s Duckett Ice rod bowed up setting the theme for the rest of the day!

It was at our third spot that Chris seemed to be hooked up every time I turned around!  It didn’t seem to matter if he casted left or right. And when he caught one it was a good one!  He really stayed with it and fished the “Dodge Rig” to as close to perfection as possible.  He didn’t break the record of 18 bass on one bait, but he for sure won bragging rights for the most fish!  His partner didn’t do so bad either as he came in second to Chris!  That leaves me in third place, but when your landing fish, retying and taking photos, there is not much time to fish!  We didn’t keep count, but most of the fish were 3 to 5 pounds and healthy!!

BASSMASTER ZONE!

In my mind the lucky photo of the jumping bass sums up the magic Chris experienced this day on Lake Fayette! Congratulations Chris for entering The Bassmaster Zone!
