Report:

Thank goodness for the LFTC Dodge Rig, but more on that in a moment!! I had the pleasure of fishing two 1/2 day morning trips with Eric, Marvelous Marv and the Comeback Kid on October 13 & 14!  As luck would have it Friday the 13th started out a bit slow as did the 14th.  I went into the trip a bit concerned as we were fishing not only behind a recent cold front but a small fish kill as well.  In the past I have simply written off fish kills to recent low oxygen rain water runoff into the creeks.  I could not blame this one on that as there was no rain.  After researching a bit, I found that low oxygen water could result from a rapid die off of alge, plankton and zooplankton.  No real damage to the lake, but poor timing for the annual fall migration of shad into the shallow creeks, hence the rattle trap and shallow bite was hard for me to find!!

We did our best each morning to entertain ourselves with some feisty Lake Fayette bass but it was very slow!  So we put down the topwater rods and picked up the LFTC (Lake Fayette Tackle Company) Dodge Rigs!  It wasn’t  long before the rods started bending and the smiles and laughs started to define the trip!  I really didn’t count, but as long as we keep the rigs dragging points in about 10′ we keep the rods bent.  The first day area dried up and we had to go on the hunt for day 2!  It took a while but we found a school that wanted to play, and play they did!

Eric, Marvelous Marv and the Comeback Kid!

There is always someone in the party that has the hot stick!  For day one and early into day 2 that was Marvelous Marv.  He took big fish honors on Day 1 and had the most boated.  Eric was the first angler to catch a fish and Kevin, aka The Comeback Kid, scored repeatably on back to back cast on Day 2 to out fish Marv for the day!!  Eric found a comfortable seat in the boat and sat and enjoyed consistent action casting in-between Kevin’s and MM’s hot spots and picking off strays in between the two schools!
